Im looking to get a new camera and i have been doing some research and i find that the canon EOS 5D Mark III has a lot of focus issues in continuos shooting and not as great as the Canon EOS 1D Mark II for action shooting especially for snow.
so thta has me thinking since the 50D has better reviews then the MARK III should i now considering the 50D and the Canon EOS 1D Mark II
anyone here would help me out and give my your opinions and some insite on which camera to choose
50D or
Canon EOS 1D Mark II
Thankss

go full frame, canon 1ds mkII. i love that camera
1d series has a pro body and built in grip, as well as better batteries. id get that over a 50d.

even with the HD format and 28mp on the 50D?
im interested in the sharpest warmest feel i know the MKII is capable of that for sure just curious if the 50D can reproduce that feel with higher quality since its more MP and also smaller pricetag

1ds mkii has more megapixels than the 50d if thats what you're into. the 50d is geared more towards consumers, with weird little features like viewing photos on an hd tv and face recognition focusing. stuff you will probably never use. the 1d is all around more professional.
and you are talking 50d, not 5d mkii right?

isn't the 1Ds a studio camera, real huge and not fast enough for sports, no?
5D2 or i heard theres a new 60D coming out soon, does video too i think.

all the pros who use canons in snowboarding use the 1Ds
the 5D from what i read has a focusing issue
i have been finding all my answers reading i think iw ill go with the 1ds rather then anything else
it seems to have the most pros and least cons

im sure its been used a lot for studio. has large enough files. its the same size as every other canon pro body (all of their sports cameras), and has a flash sync of 1/250th, which is pretty standard. doesn't take the fastest sequences, but i dont think thats much of a downfall
ive messed around with the 5d mkii a bit and its a really nice camera. that 1ds though.... if only i could afford it.

None of the pros that I know use the 1Ds camera, they all shoot the 1D Mark III.
Shot with one guy that used a 1Ds but he was a fashion photographer. Isn't this like a $7000 camera body?
The burton photogs usually run a 1D Mark III with either a 5D or 5D Mark II (for full frame) and they all have Leica M8's.
From what I gather from talking to them, the 1D cameras are fast and good for sequences, the 5D is the widest with the fisheye since its full frame and the Leica shoots nice artsy pics.
I'm not a photographer but I've used a couple of the cameras I always talk to them about the gear and lenses and that sort of thing... just throwing it out there.

the non full frame 1d series are a lot "faster" in terms of sequences for sure. it also helps with the crop factor making your lenses appear a little longer then they actually are. the 1ds original price is very high, but used is much less than a mkiii.
the 1ds would be used for fashion and stuff because they need the resolution of those cameras for post processing, and getting way zoomed in there to do it. you've just got to decided whats more important to you
1d has faster sequences, lenses appear longer, smaller file size (more images stored)
1ds has larger resolution, no crop factor (15mm fisheye = fisheye) but do you need a file that big?
one thing i have to say, its a lot nicer storing my 10mb files from my 1d than the 60mb files or whatever from the 1ds

thanks for the reply that was helpful
so a 1D rather then a 1Ds... faster sequences are definitely important to me although focus is most important i rather have less fps with better focus then faster fps and worse focus, i heard the 5d and the markIII cameras have poor auto focus and i have seen alot of complaints about that.
now what about MP ofcourse MP means higher general quality picture but would i notice the difference that much between say a 8mp 1D vs a 16MP 1Ds

depends what you do with the photos, if you are printing them 3 feet wide its possible you might notice a difference, although not much. for all computer and magazine purposes, no.

IF i were you i would either rent or borrow a friends camera for a day and go shoot with it and find out what you like. That way you will find out what you want in a camera and what you dont. Dont get caught up in the pixel game.

50D is not that of a great camera, they improved alot on the color aver the 40D but more noisy. I would go for the 1DsMKX or 1DMKX since it is weather sealed, better battery life, good iso performance, better grip.
Don't get fooled by MP
But I would deff. go with one of the 1D serie since it is not APS-C but APS-H so it has a 1.3x factor crop. It is more of a compromise for wide angle and telephoto lenses then a 1.6x factor crop. YOu also get faster img/s with the 1D since it is not Full frame and less MP.
