Ok, well both systems have there advantages and disadvantages. But first off, a Nikon D50 will do you no good with out a lens. So for this reasion Go with the canon with lens.

I am a canon person my self, and for the most part find that I like working with the files that come out of canon cameras better. But here is the thing to remember, the lens makes a much bigger diffrence than the body. so it is better to buy a ceaper body and a better lens. the one of the main draws that action photographers have to nikon is that fact that nikon makes a fisheye lens for the 1.5x digital sensor. Canon does not, but canon also makes dslr bodys that are full frame(these bodys are on the more expensive side) I guess the long and short of this is if i were you I would go canon, but if you do decide to go nikon get a d70, because you can sync the flash at 1/500 of a sec, and faster............

You NEED a lens for a d50 or you wont be able to take any pictures at all. For beginner's, I would recommend the Rebel because it's a basic Digi SLR. The d50 is a GREAT camera, don't get me wrong. However, I wouldn't suggest starting off with it. Also, if you're planning on getting a fisheye, the only good fisheye for the d50 is around $600. I'm not sure about the Rebel.

I would disagree. The Xt is a very uncomfortable camera to hold, and has a cheap build. I would pick a D50 over a Xt and D40. You can probably pick up a d50 and a 50mm 1.8 for around $500. Yes the 10.5 is the only fisheye, but its the best out there. Take it from me, i have one. GET A D50!

one thing that i love about nikon when being compared to canon, is the build quality. nikons just feel sturdier, whereas most parts on canons feel like plastic

hahaah the xt and xti feel like plastic. Grab a 5d, 1d, 1ds, hell even a 30d or 10d or d30/60, any other canon cam, the build is top notch. Not a creak or bend anywhere. The xt just happens to be crap.

I think that the build quality issue is something that is not a canon vs. nikon issue. To me all of the the low-end dslrs feel light and plasticy, and as you go up from there they feel more substantal..... The fact of the matter is you will be able to make a good image with any of the cameras mentioned.

I recommend you check out ebay, for some D50 packages...they usually come with some zoom lense, no worry even tho its not a good lense, you can still get some good practice shots on anything, good luck, get back at us with what you buy=D

i use a cannon more often then nikons but the colors out of the nikon are so bad, i always have to ajust them, whilie canon is more natural and well balanced. and i like the quickness and ajustablility of the canon.
now the nikon has a bit more lense options for the price, but canon has some nicer lenses in general.
its a tough pick, me personally the canon, i use a rebel xt by the way.
and you can get a 8mm fisheye for $300. PELENG!!! doesnt anyone know!! fuck industry fishyes, buy a manual fishye lense and convert it for digital.
EDIT: oops i just noticed i commented a year old thread... sorry lol

Ha i am glad you posted on a year old thread. I had the same question and most likely would never have seen this thread. Nikon or rebel xt?
What is this fisheye you speak of? do you have any work to show me using that fisheye?
Thanks
